A freight console that thinks in shipments, not screens

Challenge

Atlas's dispatch console had grown one feature at a time for five years. Quoting a shipment took a dispatcher eleven screens and four minutes, and new-hire training ran three weeks — mostly memorizing where things were hidden.

Solution

We spent two weeks watching dispatchers work before drawing anything. The redesign collapsed the quoting flow into a single command surface with progressive disclosure — common lanes quote in one step, exceptions expand in place. A full token-based component system replaced five years of inconsistent UI, with every state specified for the engineers.

Result

Time-to-quote fell from 4 minutes to 40 seconds. New-hire training dropped from three weeks to four days, and the component system let Atlas's team ship their next two features without a designer.
